Great suggestion, Raj! Will forward to post to Fr. Jess.

I’m also looking for a video (biographical movie or documentary) depicting the life of St. John Vianney. Can anyone recommend?

  2. Raj Derivera says:

One of the ideas floating around the web is watching movies about priests. How about a monthly priest movie night where we watch different movies about priests or with a priests as characters? The movie viewing can be accompanied with discussion, or people sharing their favorite priest stories, or affirmations and gratitude for priests. Simple pizza and popcorn could be served. (a fundraiser for the youth?)

Some movie suggestions of mine are:

Padre Pio: Miracle Man (A-II rating from the USCCB)
    The Mission (A-III)
    Romero (A-II)
Molokai: The story of Fr. Damien (no rating)
    Henry Poole is Here (A-II)
Zycie za Zycie (no rating) [Life for Life - Maximilian Kolbe]
    Excorcism of Emily Rose (A-III)
    The Ninth Day (A-III)
    Beyond the Gates (A-III)
    Joshua (A-II)
    Gran Torino (L)
    Keeping the Faith (L)

Some of the movies listed are pretty intense, and some are definitely not for children, but you can read most of the reviews on the USCCB site. Also, not all of the movies necessarily provide an image of an “ideal” priest, but they provide an opportunity for discussion, as well as highlight the need for prayers for priests.

    Any other suggestions.
