On Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 am, we join the universal Church in celebrating the Feast of Mary, our Lady of the Assumption. Because she is the Mother of Christ, Savior and Lord, because she said “Yes” to God’s will, because she gave birth to Christ for the world, because she was completely faithful to that commitment, the Church believes that she was given the privilege of the “Assumption.” We do not commemorate her “death” but her “dormition,” her “falling asleep” and being taken up to heaven body and soul. This feast is also called her “natale,” her “being born” in heaven.
This year, the Church celebrates this feast not a holy day of obligation. Nevertheless, parishioners are enjoined and encouraged to come to Holy Mass on Friday, August 14th at 7:15 pm, and on Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 am. We will also pray the Rosary.
