Officials of the Diocese of Sacramento have announced that because of rising financial costs, they will stop publishing The Catholic Herald in its present form with the June 19 issue.

The 102-year-old diocesan newspaper will be replaced by the new bimonthly Catholic Herald magazine, which will debut with a September-October issue.

In addition to monetary savings, the new magazine will focus on individual personal stories of the people of the diocese, diocesan news, be available electronically and reach a wider audience, said Bishop Jaime Soto, publisher of The Herald, in an April 6 letter to pastors and other diocesan leaders.
