Dear brother-sister neighbors at St. Catherine’s:
In case you haven’t heard yet, Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto has made available the Extraordinary Form of the Mass (otherwise known as the Tridentine Latin Mass) for the traditionally-inclided faithful in the Vallejo-Benicia area.
The TRIDENTINE MASS is held every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation at 4:30 p.m.
at the SAINT LOUIS BERTRAND CATHOLIC MISSION at 651 Sonoma Blvd. (near Lemon St.)
Our celebrant, FR. PETER TALCOTT, travels from his hometown of St. Helena to celebrate this beautiful Mass in Solano, southern Marin, and northern East Bay counties. Every Sunday, He starts the day with a morning Mass at Castello Amorosa winery St. Catherine chapel in Napa, then around noon at St. Joseph’s in Vacaville, and in the afternoon at St. Louis Bertrand in Vallejo. We appreciate Fr. Talcott’s generosity and hope to make it worth his sacrifice of time and effort to continue his ministry in our area. We are trying to increase our Latin Mass congregation at St. Louis Bertrand, so please come and help us with your presence.
Father Talcott hears confessions before each Mass and holds a Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament every last Sunday of the month..
Our Latin Mass begins with the “Asperges Me” on Sundays (after Pentecost) that is the sprinkling of holy water on the congregation. . All Scripture Readings, prayers and Latin chants are provided with English translations. We sing the Ordinary (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei) while a young friar, Br. Joseph Cotrell, chants the Propers (Introit, Gradual, Gospel antiphons, Offertory and Communion prayers.) We kneel for Communion on the tongue. We also sing a couple of traditional hymns in English.
We recite the customary after-Mass prayers of three Hail Marys, Hail Holy Queen and St. Michael and pro-life prayers and sing a seasonal Marian hymn at closing (Salve Regina or Salve Mater.)
The appropriate attire for this Mass is dress or skirt and headcovering for women and ties for men. Please, no bare knees, upper arms, or cleavage. We have extra mantillas and ties for lend to those who have none.
Please join our small, stable Latin Mass group. We are faithful to the Holy Father and grateful for his motu proprio, “Summorum Pontificum” that revived the old Mass. This Tridentine Mass is diocesan – meaning it’s really kosher. We are NOT sede vacantists, NOT schismatic, NOT integrists
As Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his Universae Ecclesiae Instruction on the Extraordinary Form, “The faithful who ask for the celebration of the forma extraordinaria must not in any way support or belong to groups which show themselves to be against the validity or legitimacy of the Holy Mass or the Sacraments celebrated in the forma ordinaria or against the Roman Pontiff as Supreme Pastor of the Universal Church..”
Thanks and God bless, everyone!

Other information online about Fr Peter Talcott asserts that he was ordained by a Thuc-line schismatic bishop and is “independent” ie not in full Communion with the Church or incardinated in a diocese or canonical institute of consecrated life. So I am not clear about what is true about him. I can see the assertions in this post that the Mass is diocesan and mention of Summorum Pontificum, but there needs to be more clarity about where the priest has his faculties from, because some of the information out there is gravely concerning. If that information is untrue or outdated then there would be all the more reason to provide information on the validity of this priest’s ministry so that the faithful could have confidence.
I would like to share this info to my fellow parishioners at St Catherine…
In the wake of the major disaster in Japan, this is an opportunity to reflect at that time as what action you would take to protect yourself in the event of an emergency in the Bay Area. Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you work, live, or travel in California. This is also an excellent opportunity for all of us to ensure that we have emergency plans and supplies in place for our homes, as well as to ensure that those emergency plans and contact information have been communicated to our families and loved ones.
Please take the time to review “Are You Ready?” published in The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website (http://www.fema.gov/areyouready/index.shtm). This guide provides a step-by-step approach to disaster preparedness by walking the reader through how to get informed about local emergency plans, how to identify hazards that affect their local area, and how to develop and maintain an emergency communications plan and disaster supplies kit. Other topics covered include evacuation, emergency public shelters, animals in disaster, and information specific to people with disabilities.
God Bless,
Emily Chua
My wife and I would like to baptize our son in your church. But we don’t belong to any church. So we don’t have any permission letters to show. Is it still possible? How many classes are there and the sponsor is in the Philippines. Would a proxy be allowed as replacement for the sponsor? Thank you.
If I understand clearly, you are not a registered parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. If so, please contact our parish rectory at (707) 553-1355 regarding Baptism for your child.
Hello,
Our family is new to St Catherines, I turned in parish registration form on May 16th to the office. I have left two messages at the parish to follow up with the form to verify we are now registered, I have not heard back as of yet so I thought I would try online to see if I could just verify our form has been processed.
The family name is Atanacio for Noel, Tricia, Jacob and Phillip.
Please try to let me know
Thanks you so much
Tricia Atanacio
Thank you for your e-mail, Tricia! The parish secretary will be contacting you back via e-mail in the next few days. God bless you and your family.
My goddaughter will be turning 15 next year. Me and her family are planning a quinceanera for her she has not completed her first communion. Can she complete both at the same time? Does the church have quineanera and first communions? Please e-mail me. I have called and left 2 messages but no one returned my call. Thank you.
This message is for Angelo. My son Brian is looking to compete his community service requirement and he knows about computer hardware, software, etc. If you could reply to this message, it would be much appreciated and I’m sorry to say that he is only available on the weekends. Thank you.
For Father Jess and the office: Just for correction
We have been a member of this parish for 32 yrs. In fact, my husband and I were married at the old church by the late Father Cullinan in 1977. I have known Father Jess since he was the Vicar. However, my name keep cropping up misspelled. Please, in the future, if you need to put my name on the bulletin or any other, please spell my nickname correctly ( ELLY vice ELY ) or put my christian name which is longer. I would appreciate it very, very, very much!!!!!! THANK YOU and GOD BLESS, ELLY McKinney
I would like you to remove my name from the Bible Study list for this Wednesday, 8/26 as I will not be able to join due to project at work. Thank you, Nora
I searched for baptism registration form but did not find on this website. I would like to request a copy sent to me by e-mail, if possible. Thank you.
